Board of Elders Update
April 2009
The board of elders held their regular monthly meetings through the first quarter and reviewed monthly financial reports, pastors’ reports, and addressed current ministry and business needs. Financially, the full budgeted income has not been received although the church continues to meet its financial obligations and there has been strong giving for the renovations.
Key ministry activities identified in the pastors’ reports included the Watoto Choir, YC Alberta, small groups, discipling, and youth activities. The reports served as a prayer focus for specific needs within the church.
The building renovations have been a major focus over the first quarter. The elders first of all aligned the renovations with the vision and mission of the church to determine the extent and priority of the renovations to be done. Some “nice to have” renovations were set aside since they did not strongly enhance the outreach mission of the church. The elders have been strongly encouraged by the number of people enthusiastically involved in the renovations as well as hearing stories of individuals whose lives have been spiritually touched through the project.
The elders began planning for a Celebration Weekend in the fall. This will be an opportunity to look back and celebrate God’s goodness demonstrated through the work done over the years in the church. It will also be an opportunity to look ahead and strengthen our commitment to the mission to which God has called the church.
