Frequently asked Questions

Why am I prompted to install the Adobe Flash player?

Our website is set up to use a flash player instead of your default media player to play the MP3 files. This was done in order to prevent problems when players other than Windows Media Player are used. Some browsers will not stream MP3 files automatically but try to download them instead, however, they will stream these files when the flash player is used.

You received the prompt because Flash was not detected on your computer and is needed for our website. Surveys have shown that Flash is installed on over 90% of computers accessing the internet regardless of the operating system being used. Just select the correct player for your operating system and follow the online prompts to install it. This will take only a few minutes and will not compromise your computer.

What if I don't want to install the Adobe Flash player? Will I still be able to listen to the sermons?

Yes, you will, just do not click on the MP3 link and download the sermon files by following the download instructions in the next question.

How do I download the sermon files to play them at another time or on an MP3 player?

To download any of the sermon files, simply right mouse on the link and go "Save Target As...". This will allow you to save the file in a location of your choice. You can also change the name to something a bit more meaningful to you at this time. Just remember where you put it so you can find it.

Why does the sermon start downloading rather than playing(streaming)?

Firefox browser

One reason that the sermon files download rather than stream is that you are using a browser such as Firefox which does not seem to want to stream MP3 files but rather keeps insisting on downloading them. The files do play, however, once they have completely downloaded. There are Firefox plugins for Windows Media Player or RealPlayer that you can download and install for this purpose. Once installed, they are supposed to automatically stream MP3s depending on which one you installed. This sounds good but does not seem to work consistently. Firefox wants to keep reverting to downloading the complete MP3 file before playing it. The simple solution is to not use Firefox if you want to stream MP3 files.

Internet Explorer browser

If you are using Internet Explorer as your browser you must also have a default media player set up to automatically play files otherwise they will download. You can set up Windows Media Player or RealPlayer to work with Internet Explorer by following the actions described below:

Windows Media Player

With Windows Media Player open, bring up the main menu if it is not already visible by right mousing on the Title bar. Select Tools and then Options from the menu. Next, click on the File Types tab and make sure that the box next to MP3 audio file is checked, apply the change and close Windows Media Player.

RealPlayer version 10 or higher

With RealPlayer 10 open, select Preferences from the Tool menu. In the Category pane, Click on the Content, Media Types category and make sure that the box next to MP3 is checked.

If you are using RealPlayer 11 the Media Types category does the same thing but uses a different interface. You can either make RealPlayer the Universal Media Player for several different file types including MP3 or you can go through and select specific file types that you want it to play by clicking on the Select button and choosing the media types that you want it to play.

Then click on the Playback Settings under the General category. Make sure that there is a check mark in the More Options section next to " Instantly play web-page media links instead of downloading them". Apply the changes and close Real Player.

If you use a different media player check out their Preferences or Options menus and you should be able to find similar items that will enable you to automatically play the sermon files.
